PACAF fuels civilian retires after over 60 years of service

JOINT BASE PEARL HARBOR-HICKAM, Hawaii -- Pictured here in 1977, Mr. Stanley Zaucha poses for a photograph aboard an ocean-going fuel tanker in Taiwan. Enlisting in 1950, Mr. Zaucha spent 31 years on active-duty in the Petroleum, Oils and Lubricants career field. He retired from the U.S. Air Force as a chief master sergeant in August 1981 and was sworn into civil service during the same month and year. He would spend the next 30 years in the fuels profession working to improve the POL infrastructure at bases all over the world. Now in February 2011, Mr. Zaucha will be retiring from civil service as a Pacific Air Forces fuels facilities manager here. (Submitted photo)

JOINT BASE PEARL HARBOR-HICKAM, Hawaii -- Pictured here in 1978, U.S. Air Force Chief Master Sgt. Stanley Zaucha, was just three years short of retiring from active-duty after 31 years of military service in the Petroleum, Oils and Lubricants career field. During the same month he retired in 1981, Mr. Zaucha was sworn into civil service and would continue on for another 30 years in the fuels career field. JOINT BASE PEARL HARBOR-HICKAM, Hawaii -- Mr. Stanley Zaucha, Pacific Air Forces Petroleum, Oils and Lubricants facilities manager, poses for a photograph in front of a fuel tank here Jan. 20. He's retiring in February 2011 after over 60 years of military and civil service fuels experience that has spanned six military campaigns including the Korean War and Operation Enduring Freedom. As a facilities manager here, Mr. Zaucha has been responsible for managing over 40 military construction projects valued in excess of $500 million.
