Air Force Week Honolulu Proclamation Ceremony Set for Friday Published Sept. 6, 2007 By 010907 HICKAM AIR FORCE BASE, Hawaii -- Air Force Week Honolulu officially kicks off Friday with a proclamation ceremony, 10:30 a.m. at Honolulu Hale (King Street front). During the ceremony, Mayor Mufi Hannemann will read, sign and present a proclamation to Gen Paul V. Hester, Pacific Air Forces commander. The proclamation recognizes the sacrifices of the men and women of the United States Air Force, now 60 years old, as a separate service and Hickam AFB as the center of Air Force presence in Hawaii for more than half a century. The Air Force Band of the Pacific, "Hana Hou" will provide entertainment before and after the event. The mayor will encourage the Hawaii community to unite in showing gratitude to the nation's Airmen, to include Air National Guard and Air Force Reserve, those who have served and those who are now serving. After the ceremony, both Mayor Hannemann and General Hester will be available for media interviews. Honolulu is one of six cities in the United States along with Phoenix, Sacramento, St Louis, Boston and Atlanta designated to host Air Force Week, a week-long event celebrating the Air Force's 60th anniversary through entertainment and air and space power.
