PACAF honors Air Force hero of Pearl Harbor attack

Maj. Gordon Blake (front row, first on the left) received a Silver Star at Hickam Field on April 14, 1942, for his quick actions in diverting incoming U.S. Aircraft away from Hickam during the December 7, 1941 attack. The U.S. Air Force Gordon Blake Aircraft Save Award is named in his honor. It is awarded for any action taken by an air traffic controller or airfield manager that results in the safe recovery of an imperiled airborne aircraft or help given to an endangered aircraft on the ground.
