Excavation starts at Haleakalā fuel spill

Contractors with U.S. Ecology, a remediation firm with years of specialized experience in fuel spill recovery, assist with excavation efforts at the Maui Space Surveillance Complex in Maui, Hawaii on Mar 3, 2023. The work plan, approved by the Hawaii Department of Health, Hazard Evaluation and Emergency Response Office, calls for the excavation of up to 200 cubic yards of soil following a fuel spill at the summit.
