Eye clinic clears Pacific Airmen's sight
HICKAM AIR FORCE BASE, Hawaii -- Maj. Tara Jayne, 15th Aeromedical-Dental Squadron optometrist, uses a split lamp to determine the overall health of Senior Airman Matthew Brown?s. She has spent more than eight years as an optometrist in the Air Force providing eye care and teaching people that wearing sunglasses can prevent cataracts later in life. Major Jayne, the only Air Force optometrist on Hickam, has been on five humanitarian trips to the Dominican Republic, Philippines and Thailand during her career. Eye clinic clears Pacific Airmen
HICKAM AIR FORCE BASE, Hawaii -- Maj. Tara Jayne, 15th Aeromedical-Dental Squadron optometrist, uses a bionauclor indirect ophthalmoscope to detect the diseases caused by macular degeneration. Smoking and over exposure to ultraviolet rays have some of the elements that may cause diseases in the eye. Major Jaybe has spent more than eight years as an optometrist in the Air Force. The only optometrist on Hickam, she has been on five humanitarian trips to the Dominican Republic, Philippines and Thailand during her career. Hurricane Hunters head into eye of Felicia
HICKAM AIR FORCE BASE -- Capts. Ellen Bundy and Tina Smith, 53rd Weather Reconnaissance Squadron meteorologists, study data obtained during a 10-hour mission through tropical storm Felicia Aug. 7. The unit, also known as the Hurricane Hunters, operate the WC-130J aircraft for weather reconnaissance into some of the most violent storms on Earth -- tropical cyclones. Hurricane Felicia reached peak strength as a Category 4 storm with sustained winds of more than 145 mph. The 53rd WRS is a one-of-a-kind U.S. Air Force Reserve unit and the only Department of Defense organization still flying into tropical storms and hurricanes since 1944. Their fleet of 10 Lockheed-Martin WC-130J aircraft and crews are part of the 403rd Wing, based at Keesler Air Force Base, Biloxi, Miss. (U.S. Air Force photo/Staff Sgt. Mike Meares)
