Hickam gets Royal visit
Lt. Col. Michael Guerrera, 204th Airlift Squadron, Hawaii Air National Guard, presents to His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiahsutan And Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei, a certificate for successfully flying the C-17 simulator. The Sultan is an accomplished 747 and Blackhawk helicopter aviator. The Monarch made a visit to Hickam AFB., Nov. 25 on a return trip from the Apec Summit Retreat in Lima Peru. Honoring our Heritage, Airman returns 65 years after Japanese attack
HICKAM AIR FORCE BASE, Hawaii -- After 65 years, Raymond D. Stehle returns to Oahu, Hawaii, to remember the attack on Dec 7, 1941, and share his story with his family. Mr. Stehle was a U.S. Army Private stationed at Bellows Army Air Field during the attack and later served as a B-24 bomber navigator, flying 36 combat missions in the Pacific. Hurricane Hunters head into eye of Felicia
HICKAM AIR FORCE BASE -- Capts. Ellen Bundy and Tina Smith, 53rd Weather Reconnaissance Squadron meteorologists, study data obtained during a 10-hour mission through tropical storm Felicia Aug. 7. The unit, also known as the Hurricane Hunters, operate the WC-130J aircraft for weather reconnaissance into some of the most violent storms on Earth -- tropical cyclones. Hurricane Felicia reached peak strength as a Category 4 storm with sustained winds of more than 145 mph. The 53rd WRS is a one-of-a-kind U.S. Air Force Reserve unit and the only Department of Defense organization still flying into tropical storms and hurricanes since 1944. Their fleet of 10 Lockheed-Martin WC-130J aircraft and crews are part of the 403rd Wing, based at Keesler Air Force Base, Biloxi, Miss. (U.S. Air Force photo/Staff Sgt. Mike Meares)
