The PACAF Resilient Warrior attribute for December is "Self-discipline."

Self-discipline is the ability to get yourself to take action regardless of your emotional state. It is a willing and instinctive sense of responsibility that leads us to do whatever needs to be done.

Getting to work on time, knowing all aspects of one's job, setting priorities and denying some personal preferences for more important values or duties are all measures of self-discipline. Far above our acceptance of imposed discipline, self-discipline reflects our personal commitment and sense of duty and is imperative in today's light and lean Air Force.

"A disciplined force puts mission first; flies, fights and wins as a team; knows the rules; pays meticulous attention to detail; and is accountable for the final results," according to Air Force Chief of Staff Gen. T. Michael Moseley.

During the month of December many of us will be celebrating the holidays, a time when self-discipline is critical in both our personal and professional lives.

A self-disciplined Airman works effectively even when in austere conditions, exerts personal discipline to perform well under both high and low stress levels.

A self-disciplined Airman regularly maintains strength, endurance and health through challenging physical activity, and takes pride in his/her appearance.

A self-disciplined Airman does not over-indulge in alcohol and demonstrates responsibility during their celebration of the holiday season.

An Airman with self-discipline is well armed with the attitude necessary to get the job done, regardless of the environment or any number of other factors to include experience. "We rise above adversity. The path to success begins with the choices I make ... peer pressure won't define who I am."

Self-Discipline is the final topic of the Resilient Warrior Initiative. Throughout the year the Resilient Warrior Initiative has focused on various topics that will foster resiliency in Airmen. A resilient Airman is capable of successfully adapting to difficult or challenging life experiences, especially highly stressful or traumatic events.
