A U.S Air Force exchange pilot receives the honorary citizenship from city of Choonju Published April 21, 2010 By Courtesy Story OSAN AIR BASE, Republic of Korea -- A US Air Force exchange pilot became the first foreign military personnel to receive the honorary citizenship certificate from city of Choongju. Major Ashley B. Clayborne who is currently assigned to ROKAF 19th Fighter Wing located in Choongju. Major Clayborne, an MIT alumnus, has contributed to not only the enhancement of ROKAF-USAF combined operational capability with his dedication and fluency in Korean language, but also the strengthening of the community by holding free English classes for local residents, participating in local events such as the Lake Festival and Apple Marathon, and leading the civilian support efforts during heavy rain/snowfalls. "Major Clayborne, during his service since September 2007, served as the bridge between ROKAF and USAF, and helped promoting various local events of Choongju city" said Choongju Mayor Ho-Bok Kim during the ceremony. "It is such an honor to become an honorary citizen." said Major Clayborne, "and I will continue my services for the local community as a Choongju citizen." Until today, Choongju city has named 26 honorary citizens, including 21 foreign nationals.
