Chief Master Sgt. Katie McCool, Pacific Air Forces command chief, reinforced U.S. and New Zealand defense ties during a visit to Christchurch, New Zealand, in support of Operation Deep Freeze, March 10.

Operation Deep Freeze is the Department of Defense’s logistical support mission to the U.S. Antarctic Program and the National Science Foundation, a testament to the enduring cooperation between the United States, New Zealand, and partner nations in one of the world’s most challenging environments.

During her visit, McCool engaged with senior leaders from the Royal New Zealand Air Force, the New Zealand Defence Force, and the New Zealand Joint Forces, underscoring the strength and importance of the U.S.–New Zealand alliance.

“The partnership between the United States and New Zealand is vital to promoting security and stability across the Indo-Pacific,” said McCool. “What our New Zealand teammates bring to the table is critical.”

McCool also addressed more than 120 RNZAF Airmen, sharing key insights on U.S. Indo-Pacific Command’s priorities and PACAF’s strategic focus areas. During her remarks, she emphasized the importance of discipline, professionalism, and lethality in strengthening the warfighting capabilities of enlisted Airmen across both nations’ forces.

“Together, we are stronger,” McCool said. “Our shared values and vision for a free and open Indo-Pacific drive our combined efforts forward.”

Her engagement with New Zealand defense leaders and Airmen reaffirms PACAF’s commitment to deepening defense cooperation and interoperability with allies and partners throughout the region.
