In 1953, in the interest of putting an end to the Korean war, United Nations commanders signed an agreement with commanders of the Korean People's Army and the Chinese People's Volunteer Army, establishing the Korean War Armistice Agreement.

Born out of necessity… forged in blood… sacrifice… and bravery. The legacy of those who laid down their lives 70 years ago in defense of a free, democratic, and prosperous Korean peninsula will never be forgotten.

This year we honor 70 years of that agreement and the anniversary of the United States-Republic of Korea alliance that has upheld it since.

The US-ROK alliance has played an indispensable role in promoting democracy, peace and economic prosperity while maintaining a combined defensive posture to preserve ROK sovereignty and achieve a secure and brighter future for the American and Korean people.

Guided by our shared commitment to defend universal human rights, freedom, and the rule of law, the U.S. and ROK remain focused on our comprehensive global cooperation, deepening our robust regional engagement and strengthening our ironclad Alliance.

Our alliance has successfully maintained peace in the Indo-Pacific region over the last seven decades and together our alliance will continue to provide future generations with a firm foundation to build upon.
