JOINT BASE PEARL HARBOR-HICKAM, Hawaii -- Military agencies from multiple services recently converged for a Combined Federal Campaign Awards and Change of Responsibility Ceremony in the Courtyard of Heroes at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, Hawaii, Feb. 26.
U.S. Air Force Lt. Gen. Jon T. Thomas, Pacific Air Forces deputy commander, led the charge for the 2020 CFC campaign for the Indo-Pacific region, which kicked off on Oct. 5, 2020 and culminated Jan. 15, 2021
“It’s been a personal pleasure to be involved in this and have the opportunity to lead it at the Hawaii-Pacific region,” Thomas said. “When the time comes and I wrap up a military career, I will look back on this and I will go, ‘This was a great opportunity to help and we did.’”
“We’re going to have effects for families and members for years to come because of what we were able to accomplish over the past season, and for this I’m thankful,” Thomas continued.
More than 2,000 volunteers and 3,000 donors across the region collectively raised a total of more than $1.5 million, which exceeded last year’s overall contribution by 2.5%.
“Our average gift in 2019 was $410; we have exceeded that amount in 2020 to $487,” said U.S. Air Force Lt. Col. Jackie Lou E. Kim, Pacific Air Forces Surgeon General Directorate chief information officer. “We joined in on the fun on the national ‘#LemonFaceChallengeCFC.’ We also launched weekly leadership newsletters for all 15 weeks sent directly by Lt. Gen. Thomas.”
Over 56 hosted events took place throughout the Hawaii-Pacific Region with unit CFC Project Officers and key leaders. Events such as the store booths, charity fairs and social media photo contests provided employees the opportunity to learn more about the CFC and how to be become a part of the cause.
“I want to extend our best wishes here from the Pacific Air Forces to the Hawaii Air National Guard and Brig. Gen. Ota for the 2021 Campaign that’s coming up,” Thomas said. “As successful as this campaign was, I truly hope and sincerely wish that the 2021 Campaign will exceed ours by leaps and bounds. And I know that it’s possible because we have a great team that’s taking it on.”
Each year, the lead-agency role for the Indo-Pacific region’s CFC is rotated amongst military agencies in Honolulu, Hawaii. The Hawaii Air National Guard will be the lead agency for the 2021 CFC Campaign.
