EIELSON AIR FORCE BASE, Alaska -- An Airman assigned to the 354th Fighter Wing tested positive for the COVID-19 virus today.
The Airman had recent travel history in the continental United States; however, contact with others was minimal due to installation policy resulting in the individual being placed in quarantine upon return to the local area.
“As Icemen, we take pride in thriving as a community in the harshest environment. We always look after our own and the COVID-19 pandemic is no exception,” said Col. Benjamin Bishop, 354th Fighter Wing commander. “It is extremely important that we maintain disciplined health and hygiene practices so we can overcome this challenge and continue to accomplish our mission.”
The wing is taking all the measures necessary to treat and isolate the member to mitigate the spread of disease. The Airman is currently receiving care from Eielson medical professionals and will remain in isolation in a personal residence.
