Brigadier General DIRK D. SMITH

Brig. Gen. Dirk D. Smith is the Director of Air and Cyberspace Operations, Headquarters Pacific Air Forces, Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, Hawaii. He is responsible for ensuring PACAF provides ready air, space, and cyber power to promote United States interests in the Asia-Pacific region during peacetime, through crisis, and in war. In this capacity, General Smith oversees operations for three numbered air forces and 10 wings in support of over 46,000 Airmen serving in Japan, Korea, Hawaii, Alaska, and Guam. In addition, he executes duties as Joint Task Force Commander and Joint Force Air Component Commander in support of Pacific Command taskings.

General Smith entered the Air Force in 1988 after receiving his commission from the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado. He has commanded at the squadron, group, and wing levels. His duty history includes multiple combat air forces operational assignments and he has served as a Flying Training Unit Instructor and a U.S. Air Force Weapons School Instructor. He commanded the 609th Air and Space Operations Center, AFCENT, directly supporting operations NEW DAWN and ENDURING FREEDOM. Prior to his current assignment, General Smith was the Deputy Director for Operations, Pacific Command, Camp H.M. Smith, Hawaii.

He is a command pilot with more than 2,800 hours in the F-15C and F-22A, including 100 combat hours in OPERATION SOUTHERN WATCH.
