7/13/2012 - U.S. Air Force Col. John Griffin, left, 35th Mission Support Group commander, passes the guidon to Lt. Col. Denise Emery, 35th Force Support Squadron commander, during an official change of command ceremony at Misawa Air Base, Japan, July 12, 2012. The passing of the guidon symbolizes the passing of authority. Before she was chosen to replace Lt. Col. Thomas Esser, the departing commander; Emery was the Pentagon’s Chief of Developmental Education. Emery was responsible for policy oversight of over $200 million in developmental education programs which affect over 320,000 Airmen across the Air Force continuum of education.
