8/23/2011 - KUNSAN AIR BASE, Republic of Korea -- "Wolf Pack" Airmen participated in a triathlon at Kunsan Air Base Aug. 20, testing their physical endurance and increasing unit esprit de corps.
"Personally, getting first place in the triathlon reinforced all my hard work getting physically fit and that I'm taking the right steps in the right direction," said Senior Airman Rachel Offutt, 8th Operations Group intelligence acting targets chief. "And professionally speaking, getting first place ensures I'm fit to fight and ready to take the fight north tonight."
Winners received towels, special water bottles and, in some cases, a sling bag.
"It was great to see all the participants and volunteers who helped out," Offutt said.
Results are broken down by category:
29 and younger men
1st Place: Senior Airman Michael Laliberte, 8th Maintenance Squadron
2nd Place: Senior Airman Phillip Bennett, 8th Maintenance Operations Squadron
30 and over men
Result information is under review.
29 and younger females
1st Place: Senior Airman Rachel Offutt, 8th Operations Group
2nd Place: Staff Sgt. Danielle Morris, 8th Operations Support Squadron
Teams
1st Place Team: the "TriBros" from the 8th Civil Engineer Squadron
Master Sgt. Jason Carr
Tech. Sgt. Alejandro Gonzalez
Tech. Sgt. Brenton Haynes
2nd Place Team: "Team 3" from the 8th CES
Lt. Col. Christopher Leonard
Maj. Joel Sloan
Capt. Nathan Olsen
Each team member was required to do a portion of the event. The event consisted of a 125-meter swim, an 11k bike ride around the air field and a 5k run through Wolf Pack Park.
"It took a considerable amount of planning to run this triathlon," said Staff Sgt. Daryl Delosreyes, 8th Force Support Squadron fitness specialist. "The fitness center staff coordinated with other base agencies like the medical group, security forces, and CE to aid us with an event like this."
"Mr. [Bill] Goins, the base exercise physiologist, who is also an avid triathlon participant, helped us tremendously by sharing his experience on how to run a fun, but challenging triathlon," Delosreyes added.
