According to Japanese press reports, the foreign minister toured the installation to personally research the possibility of combining Marine Corps Air Station Futenma with the air base. The relocation of Futenma is a key measure of a major realignment plan signed by both countries three years ago. Kadena AB is the largest Air Force installation in the Pacific region and home to the largest combat air wing in the Air Force.
