PACAF Airman dies after scuba diving

A U.S. Air Force captain assigned to the 613th Air Operations Center died after scuba diving at approximately 11 a.m. June 28 at Shark's Cove, Haleiwa, Hawaii. The Airman was transported to Kahuku Medical Center in Kahuku, Hawaii, where he was pronounced deceased.

Capt. Kenneth Cherry's exact cause of death has yet to be determined. Additional information will be released as it becomes available.

Cherry arrived at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam in June 2012. A native of San Diego, California, he is survived by his wife Capt. Sarah Thompson.

"Ken was a valued and respected member of our Air Operation Center entrusted with our most important mission priorities," said Col. David Moeller, 613th AOC commander. "We are grieving this tragic loss along with his wife and family. His leadership and team-first effort will be greatly missed."

The memorial service for Cherry will be held July 2 at the Chapel Center on the Hickam side of JBPHH at 3 p.m.
