An Airman found dead in his dorm room May 8 has been identified.

Tech. Sgt. Michael Cook, 8th Communications Squadron, was found by members of his unit after he failed to report to duty the morning of May 8.

The active-duty non-commissioned officer's death is currently under investigation. Members of the 8th Security Forces Squadron and the Air Force's Office of Special Investigation are involved in the case.

Col. Jeff "Wolf" Lofgren, 8th Fighter Wing commander, said Sergeant Cook's death was a tragedy for the Wolf Pack family.

"It's an emotional time for a lot of people, not just those directly part of Sergeant Cook's squadron," Colonel Lofgren said. "Any time we lose one of our members, it doesn't just affect those closest around them; the entire Wolf Pack family feels it. We're saddened by the loss of Sergeant Cook and our deepest sympathies and thoughts go out to his family."

Maj. Bryan Richardson, 8th CS commander and associate of Sergeant Cook's, said the loss of Sergeant Cook has been felt throughout the squadron.

"As the leader of the Cable Maintenance Section, Mike was a positive influence to his Airmen and our entire squadron," Major Richardson said. "I knew I could count on him to accomplish any task I gave him in a manner that brought credit and pride to the Wolf Comm family. The entire 8th Communications Squadron, past and present, joins me in offering our thoughts and prayers to his family and friends. Mike will be remembered and missed by all."

Wolf Pack Airmen feeling affected by Sergeant Cook's death have outlets available to them. Wing leadership are reminding Airmen they can get help from base chaplains, life skills specialists, squadron commanders and first sergeants who are willing to speak with anyone troubled or stressed by Sergeant Cook's loss.
