A non-commissioned officer recently received nine months confinement, reduction to Airman Basic and a bad conduct discharge for possessing and displaying child pornography here.

Staff Sergeant Jason M. Hooks, 18th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron, pleaded guilty to the charges before a military judge in a general court martial June 13.

Sergeant Hooks accepted the sentence by the military judge rather than by a panel of court-martial members under the terms of a pretrial agreement. Sergeant Hooks will begin his confinement immediately at the Marine Corps Brigade at Camp Hansen, Okinawa.

"We're pleased with the outcome in this case," said Capt. William D. Deitch, 18th Wing trial counsel. "Hopefully this sentence will serve as a deterrent to prevent others from engaging in this illegal and unacceptable behavior."

The maximum punishment Sergeant Hooks could have received for the offense was a reduction in rank to E-1, confinement for 10 years, forfeiture of all pay and allowances, and a dishonorable discharge.
