New access for Retirees; claims process gets easier Published Aug. 17, 2007 PACAF Public Affairs HICKAM AIR FORCE BASE, Hawaii -- Recently, the Air Force Judge Advocate General's Corps has consolidated the processing of certain claims, commonly known as personnel claims, at a single location in Dayton, Ohio. The new process enables Air Force employees to file claims on-line and electronically submit required documents to the Air Force Claims Service (AFCSC) in Ohio. Employees can complete the process from home after a one-time login on any government computer. For retirees who do not have access to government computers, a new guidance came out in March that specifically references retirees and informs them on how they can file claims from their personal computers. Retirees or others without initial access to a government computer, can call the claims center at 1-877-754-1212 to receive a username and password. This information will enable them to file claims from their personal computers. The types of claims individuals can file online involve loss or damage during shipment of household goods and privately owned vehicles as well as during storage at government expense, and loss or damage to personal property located in government quarters or other authorized locations incident to government service. Other types of trauma-related claims, such as those resulting from the alleged negligence of a government vehicle driver, for example, will continue to be processed at the base legal office. For more information and instructions on documentation needed to prepare a claim, members are encouraged to go to http://legalassistance.law.af.mil/ claims or call the base legal office. To file a claim, go to https://claims.jag.af.mil or call 1-877-754-1212 or DSN 986-8044 for any additional questions.
