Pacific Air Forces Airmen test Next Generation Aircrew Protection equipment

U.S. Air Force Capt. Alex “Doom” Moss, 19th Fighter Squadron F-22 Raptor pilot, simulates purging chemical vapor contamination from the cockpit of his aircraft during a Next Generation Aircrew Protection Step-Launch and Recover concept of operation training event, Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, Hawaii, May 10, 2023. Based on a need to unencumber the pilot, a team of cross functional experts from Airstaff, Pacific Air Forces, Air Force Research Lab, Air Combat Command, Air Force CBRN Defense Systems Branch, and many others began looking at the ability of the on-aircraft environmental control system—or air conditioner—to remove and purge chemical vapor contamination from the cockpit.
