(Right to left) Japan Air Self-Defense Force Tech. Sgt. Yuta Enoki, 402nd Squadron C-1 loadmaster, and Capt. Yusaku Kariya, 401st Squadron C-130 pilot, check their harnesses over Pacific Ocean, Dec. 9, 2015, during Operation Christmas Drop 2015. This year marks the first time allied partners from JASDF and Royal Australian Air Force joined the U.S. in the humanitarian aid/disaster relief training event. During the training missions, C-130 aircrews perform low-cost low-altitude airdrops on unsurveyed drop zones while providing critical supplies to 56 islands throughout the Commonwealth of the Northern Marianas, Federated States of Micronesia and Republic of Palau. It highlights the U.S. and allied airpower capabilities to orient and respond to activities in peacetime and crisis. In addition to delivering critical supplies to those in need, Operation Christmas Drop provides specific training to U.S. and allied aircrews, enabling theater-wide airpower.
