POW/MIA Remembrance

Members of the Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam Honor Guard team perform a 21-gun salute in honor of national prisoners of war/missing in action recognition ceremony at the Missing Man Formation, JBPHH, Hawaii, Sept. 20, 2013. The custom stems from a naval tradition, where a warship would fire its cannons harmlessly out to sea, until all ammunition was spent, to show that it was disarmed, signifying the lack of hostile intent.
