U.S. Air Force Airmen from the 535th Airlift Squadron, Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, HI, are working to transport displaced civilians to Manila from Tacloban Air Field, Philippines, Nov. 15, 2013. The supply drop-off and personnel loading was the first use of the C-17 during Operation Damayan, able to carry significantly more supplies and displaced persons than the C-130 Hercules aircraft currently being utilized. Because of their long-standing partnership, the U.S., working through the Philippine government was able to rapidly respond with critically needed capabilities and supplies during Operation Damayan, the humanitarian assistance and disaster relief effort following Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines.
