Capt. Philip Poeppelman, an active duty evaluator pilot with the 8th Airlift Squadron at McChord Air Force Base, Wash., and Maj. Jason Allen, a Reserve evaluator pilot with the 97th Airlift Squadron also at McChord, look out over the ice as they deliver more than 64,000 pounds of supplies and equipment to Antarctica Sept. 10. On the return flight from McMurdo Station, Antarctica, the C-17 evacuated a 56-year-old male assigned to the National Science Foundation in need of a cardiovascular evaluation. The medical movement to Christchurch, New Zealand, was conducted by Joint Task Force Support Forces Antarctica, headquartered at Hickam AFB, Hawaii, and led by 13th Air Force.
