Santa Rita, Guam (June 19, 2006) – Lt. Oscar Rojas, Operations Officer, Explosive Ordinance Disposal Mobile Unit Five explains the functions of a remote detonator to Maj. Gen Chip Utterback, USAF Deputy Commander, Joint Task Force 519 and Rear Adm. Zhang Leiyu from the People’s Republic of China before detonation of ordnance that was placed within Apra Harbor by EODMU Five. Dignitaries from Australia, China, India, Japan, Korea, Russia and Singapore were present during this demonstration. The group also observed demonstrations by Naval Special Warfare Unit One and Mobile Security Squadron Seven during their tour. The thirty three foreign dignitaries are currently here to observe the U.S. Pacific Command exercise Valiant Shield 2006 which involves approximately 22,000 Sailors, Airmen, Marines, Soldiers and Coast Guardsmen, one of the largest joint-military exercises in the Pacific in more than a decade.
