Emperor of Japan pays homage to America's fallen

Adm. Timothy Keating, U.S. Pacific Command commander, greets the Emperor of Japan at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific at Punchbowl Crater, Hawaii, July 15. Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko paid tribute to those interred at the cemetery by laying a chrysanthemum wreath in a ceremony also attended by Hawaii Gov. Linda Lingle and Pacific Air Forces commander, Gen. Howie Chandler. The ceremony also included a 21-gun salute, a joint flyover by U.S. Navy and Japan Self Defense Forces aircraft and the playing of "Taps." More than 50,000 service men and women are interred at the cemetery. (U.S. Air Force photo/Staff Sgt. LuCelia Ball)
