Sharing medical knowledge in Nauru

REPUBLIC OF NAURU – A C-17 Globemaster III piloted by a crew from the 728th Airlift Squadron of McChord Air Force Base, Wash. lands here July 27. The C-17 picked up a 12-person team of U.S. Pacific Command Airmen and Soldiers deployed here to provide medical assistance and training to the island's caregivers. This was the first time a substantial U.S. military presence has been to Nauru since World War II. A thick reef surrounds the island, precluding ships from docking, and the runway is relatively short. The C-17's unique ability to land on short runways made this mission possible.
