A B-2 Spirit stealth bomber takes on fuel from a KC-135 over the Western Pacific during a nighttime mission. America’s bomber force has a unique capability that allows strategic airframes, like the stealth bomber, to reach any target on the globe at a time of the combatant commander’s choosing. The Spirit can take off from its assigned base, refuel while airborne, destroy its target and remain invisible to enemy radar. The global strike capability of the B-2 was demonstrated in the beginning of Operation Allied Force over Kosovo, where it destroyed 33 percent of the total enemy targets by flying non-stop from Whiteman Air Force Base, Mo., to its combat objective and back again.
