A cross monument overlooks the annual sea ice runway near McMurdo Station, Antarctica Nov. 26. The cross is a historic monument commemorating T. Vince of the British Antarctic Expedition of 1901-1904 who lost his life in the vicinity in March 1902. McMurdo Station is the largest community in Antarctica U.S. States Antarctic Program, a branch of the National Science Foundation.
