Col. Wesley Cockman, the Pacific Angel-Sri Lanka mission commander, talks with Ranjaney Fernando, principal of the Semandaluwa Kanista Vidyalaya primary school. U.S. and Sri Lankan military members are renovating the school as part of Operation Pacific Angel, a joint and combined humanitarian assistance operation conducted in the Pacific area of responsibility. After learning about the school’s need for a reliable power source, Colonel Cockman coordinated with the U.S. Embassy in Colombo and U.S. Pacific Command in Hawaii to secure funding for a generator, computers and associated equipment. The funding request was approved within 48 hours. Operation Pacific Angel supports U.S. Pacific Command's capacity-building efforts throughout the Asia-Pacific region.
