Airmen joined Sailors in gaining some knowledge about Australian Rules Football from players representing the Melboune Demons Football Club at Gosch’s Paddock in Melbourne, Australia, March 4, 2011. The Airmen are from Kadena Air Base, Japan, and Dyess Air Force Base, Texas, while the Sailors are from the San Diego-based USS Shoup. The two groups took time out from attending the Avalon 2011 Australian International Airshow and Aerospace and Defence Exposition in Geelong, Australia. The event is one of the largest airshows in the world. The U.S. and Australian alliance spans more than 60 years and provides an opportunity for U.S and senior military officials to engage with their Australian counterparts, and ultimately contribute toward interoperability between the forces.
