Attack on Pearl Harbor

On December 7, 1941, the "Big Barracks" at Hickam Field was repeatedly strafed and bombed by Japanese attackers, and a portion of the building was set on fire. Thirty-five men were killed by one bomb alone when the ordnance hit the mess hall during breakfast. Despite the damage inflicted by the Japanese, the building was successfully restored and eventually became the headquarters of the Pacific Air Forces.
