A hula welcome
Children from the Halau Hula Olana under the direction of Kumu Hula Olana dance traditional hula dances for the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds arrival Sept. 16 at Hickam Air Force Base, Hawaii. They met the pilots with leis to put around their necks to welcome them. The lei in the Hawaiian culture symbolizes many things, to include welcome and affection for the person receiving it. In 1975, Howard and Olana A`i established Halau Hula Olana, the School of Living Hula, where hundreds of children ages 6-13 have been instructed by Olana and her family. Hickam hosts open house with Thunderbids
The Thunderbirds, U.S. Air Force Demonstration Squadron, arrive in typical style over Hickam Air Force Base, Hawaii, during their initial arrival for "Wings Over the Pacific," Sept. 16. The Thunderbirds will demonstrate the capabilities the F-16 Fighting Falcon by performing combat maneuvers during their aerial portion of the weekend event Sept. 19-20.
