Active Duty, Guard and Reserve Airmen attached to this mission, which originated at Joint Base Lewis-McChord and staged out of Christchurch, assembled the full range of medical and support capabilities to safely evacuate the patient. Emergency airdrop rescues stranded ship
The Argos Georgia crew prepares to recover airdropped supplies Jan. 4. A C-17 and 62nd Airlift Wing and 446th Airlift Wing aircrews and support members from McChord AFB, Wash., are currently deployed to Christchurch to support the 13th AF-led JTF-SFA, OPERATION DEEP FREEZE.The Argos Georgia had suffered serious engine failure from negotiating ice while heading South in the Ross Sea, leaving it without propulsion and drifting with the ice. Emergency airdrop rescues stranded ship
A grateful crew of the Argos Georgia show their appreciation to the crew of the C-17 after the air drop. The Argos Georgia had suffered serious engine failure from negotiating ice while heading South in the Ross Sea, leaving it without propulsion and drifting with the ice.
