On day three of Air Force Week Honolulu, "Top Cover " USAF Band of the Pacific from Alaska performs for a crowd of more than 200 at a local shopping mall.

Top Cover opened the show wearing their special edition Air Force 60th anniversary 'Aloha shirt' and started with a rocked up version of 'My Country 'Tis of Thee' while mall shoppers gathered around the stage.

During the hour-long performance the crowd learned about the Air Force presence in the Pacific, and was treated to a top-notch performance of popular songs of the past four decades. While children danced in front of the stage the audience clapped and moved to songs from music icons such as Credence Clearwater Revival, The Doobie Brothers and Joan Jett.

The band also paid tribute to a former Pacific Air Force Band member Mr. Dave Hearn. "I had heard about Air Force Week Honolulu and wanted to come and see the band play," said Mr. Hearn, who left the Air Force in 1968. "This is a real treat and brings back many memories," he said.

Music was not the only attraction for the afternoon. A preview of Air Force art was on display to help draw attention to a planned Air Force Art exhibition, 'Living History Thorough Air Force Art" at the Hale Koa Hotel in Waikiki on Sept. 13. from  noon to 8:30 p.m.

The Air Force art collection documents the story of the Air Force through the universal language of art, according to Dr. Tim Keck, PACAF Command Historian. "There will be 55 pieces of Air Force art on display," he said. "The paintings in this exhibit are rarely seen outside Air Force bases or the Pentagon."
