Ancillary training requirements for most Airmen have dropped from nine blocks to three under Total Force Awareness Training, or TFAT, which launched Oct. 15 on the Advanced Distributed Learning Service at https://golearn.csd.disa.mil.

"This is an outstanding step in the right direction," said Michael Mauldwin, chief of evaluations at the 82nd Training Group. "With the old way it could take a person eight to 10 hours to complete these blocks. Now people are finishing it in 90 minutes."

The three blocks in the new system are information protection, force protection and human relations. They replace nine blocks:

· Information security
· NATO security
· Information assurance
· Records management
· Privacy Act
· Freedom of Information Act
· Protection from terrorism
· Combating trafficking in persons
· Suicide awareness

Airmen have embraced the system enthusiastically--with some unintended consequences.

"ADLS is jammed sometimes, because everyone is trying to get in at the same time right now," said Billy Moore, training manager for the 361st TRS.

The Air Force estimates that TFAT will save 6 million man-hours per year.
