PACAF Change of Command set for Wednesday

The Pacific Air Forces Change of Command has been scheduled for Wednesday at 9 a.m. at Freedom Tower Mall. 

Gen. Norton A. Schwartz, Air Force Chief of Staff, and Navy Adm. Timothy J. Keating, U.S. Pacific Command commander, will officiate as Gen. Gary L. North assumes command from Gen. Howie Chandler. 

General North is coming from command of 9th Air Force and U.S. Air Forces Central, headquartered at Shaw AFB, S.C. The general has led air operations in Iraq and Afghanistan since early 2006. After just less than two years in the job, General Chandler is returning to the Pentagon in Washington D.C where he'll be the Vice Chief of Staff of the Air Force, the service's second highest post. 

Parking for the event will be limited and on-base attendees are encouraged to walk. A reception will follow at the Officer's Club. 

Road closures 

Several streets will be closed Aug. 17-18 for ceremony practices and on Aug. 19 for the ceremony. The closure time Aug. 17 and 18 will be 6:45 to 9 a.m. and 2:45 to 5 p.m. On Aug. 19 streets will be closed from 6:30 to 10 a.m. 

The streets to be closed are: 9th Street between Scott Circle and Manzelman Circle, 8th Street between Scott Circle and Manzelman Circle, Manzelman Circle between 8th Street and 9th Street, Scott Circle between 15th Medical Group building and library, Beard Avenue between 7th Street and 10th Street, and Signer Boulevard between 7th Street and 10th Street.
