More than 65 U.S. airmen, along with two C-130H Hercules from the 374th Airlift Wing at Yokota Air Base, Japan, joined Bangladesh Air Force airmen and one AN-32 transport aircraft, during exercise Cope South 2010 scheduled through September 23.

The U.S. and Bangladesh air forces train together to better respond to regional disasters during the exercise focusing on tactical airlift operations.

Cope South participants are exchanging airlift, airland and airdrop delivery techniques as well as developing and expanding combined airlift capabilities with the Bangladesh Air Force. In addition, participants are conducting cooperative flight operations, to include aircraft generation and recovery, low-level navigation, tactical airdrop, and air-land missions; and conducting subject-matter expert exchanges in the operations, maintenance and rigging disciplines.

U.S. Air Force, Army and Navy personnel teamed up with Bangladesh, Indonesian and Nepalese military personnel in Bangladesh last June for medical and engineering civic assistance programs and subject-matter expert exchanges during Operation Pacific Angel. Cope South continues to strengthen the bond between the U.S. and Bangladesh air forces.
