Members of Team Kadena performed a "Foreign Object Debris" walk of the North runway Nov. 12, 2010.

Approximately 265 volunteers participated in the two-and-a-half mile FOD walk, and 10 pounds of debris was collected. Among the debris were 29 metallic and stone objects that could have caused millions of dollars of damage to Kadena Air Base's $5.5 billion assets.

The FOD walk, which is part of the FOD program overseen by the 18th Wing vice commander, is designed to keep the airfield clean and free of damaging debris such as aircraft and vehicle fasteners, rocks and any hard or soft objects that can damage an aircraft engine or airframe.

FOD prevention is the responsibility of all who work in, on, around or traveling through the flightline. This includes military, civilian, and contract personnel.
