An emergency management exercise was conducted to enhance counter-terrorism measures and prepare responders for real-life situations at Kunsan Air Base, Korea, June 22.

One scenario included an "active shooter," which involves an individual actively engaged in killing or attempting to kill people in a confined and populated area, typically through the use of firearms.

Some points to remember when coping with an active shooter are:

1) Maintain situational awareness by being aware of the environment and any possible dangers
2) Take note of the two nearest exits in any facility visited,
3) If in an office, stay there and secure the doors
4) As a last resort, attempt to take the active shooter down.
