Nearly 100 military troops "invaded" Kunsan Air Base Aug. 12, but the men and women of the historic Wolf Pack were able to "Defend the Base" from them.

Athletes from nearby Osan Air Base came to Kunsan looking for victory during the 2nd Annual Kunsan Versus Osan Sports Day. However, the Mustangs' stampede was halted by the mighty Wolf Pack, with Kunsan taking the overall victory and the coveted sports day trophy with a score of 4-3 for the day.

The competition began mid-day with a 5K fun run along Kunsan's perimeter road. Although there were no formal prizes or scores for the fun run, one of Osan's athletes put her best foot forward and left everyone in the dust. Staff Sgt. Staff Sgt. Angela Martell, an avid marathon runner, was unfamiliar with the course here, bypassed the turnaround point and kept going.

"I wanted to recognize one person today," Col. Scott Pleus, 8th Fighter Wing commander said as he called Martell forward during closing remarks. "If you were out on the fun run, everybody knows who it was but we're not exact sure if she ever stopped running. She was so far out in front, when they finally caught her she said: 'That's OK I'm just going to keep running."' Pleus then presented the sergeant with a Wolf Pack Fitness Center T-shirt that reads, "I ran with the Pack" across the back.

For the remainder of the challenge, both teams battled during the following events:

Dodgeball (winner, Osan); soccer (winner, Kunsan); volleyball (winner, Osan); fireman challenge (winner, Kunsan); football (winner, Kunsan); basketball (winner, Osan); and bowling (winner, Kunsan).

"Any time we have an opportunity to put a Kunsan versus Osan challenge on the books, it's always going to be a good day," Pleus said. "We were glad to host you and we look forward to the opportunity to go in the opposite direction and head back to Osan for the follow on challenges that will occur."
