Non-judicial punishment helps maintain good order, discipline

Non-judicial punishment under Article 15, Uniform Code of Military Justice, provides commanders with an essential and prompt means of maintaining good order and discipline. It also promotes positive behavioral changes among service members without the stigma of a court-martial conviction. An Article 15 may be imposed for a variety of offenses at commander's discretion.  For example, at Kunsan Air Base, recently:
 
An airman first class from the 8th Security Forces Squadron received an Article 15 for one specification of absent without leave for less than three days. For this action, the airman received a reduction to the rank of airman, suspended forfeitures of $383 pay per month for two months, 14 days extra duty and a reprimand.

An airman first class from the 8th Civil Engineer Squadron received an Article 15 for one specification for failing to obey a lawful order. For this action, the airman received a reduction to the rank of airman basic, 20 days extra duty, 30 days of restriction to Kunsan AB and a reprimand.

An airman first class from the 8th Logistics Readiness Squadron received an Article 15 for two specifications of failure to go. For these actions, the airman received a suspended reduction to the rank of airman, 15 days extra duty, 20 days of restriction to Kunsan AB and a reprimand.

A staff sergeant from the 8th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron received an Article 15 for one specification of failure to obey a lawful order and two specifications of provoking speech or gestures. For these actions, the sergeant received a suspended reduction to the rank of senior airman, 13 days of restriction to Kunsan AB and a reprimand.

A senior airman from the 8th CES received an Article 15 for one specification of assault consummated by a battery. For this action, the airman received a suspended reduction to the rank of airman first class, forfeitures of $975 pay per month for two months, 45 days extra duty, 45 days of restriction to Kunsan AB and a reprimand.

A staff sergeant from the 8th LRS received an Article 15 for one specification of indecent exposure. For this action, the sergeant received a suspended reduction to the rank of senior airman, forfeitures of $500 pay per month for two months, 45 days extra duty, 45 days of restriction to Kunsan AB and a reprimand.

A senior airman from the 8th AMXS received an Article 15 for one specification of provoking speech or gestures, one specification of assault consummated by a battery and one specification of drunk and disorderly. For these actions, the airman received a reduction to the grade of airman first class, forfeiture of $900 pay per month for two months, 60 days of restriction to Kunsan AB and a reprimand.

A senior airman from the 8th CES received an Article 15 for three specifications of disrespect to an NCO. For these actions, the airman received a reduction to the grade of airman first class and a reprimand.

A senior airman from the 8th AMXS received an Article 15 for one specification of assault consummated by a battery. For this action, the airman received a suspended reduction to the grade of airman first class, forfeiture of $250 pay per month for two months, 60 days of restriction to Kunsan AB and a reprimand.
