RIMPAC 2012
Lt. Gen. Stanley Kresge, commander, 13th Air Force, greets Royal Canadian Air Force Brig. Gen. Michael Hood, July 2, 2012, at the 613th Air Operations Center, Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, Hawaii. During Rim of the Pacific, scheduled from June 29 through Aug. 3, Gen. Hood will serve as the RIMPAC Combined Force Air Component Commander and oversee command, control and execution of all air operations from the 613th AOC. Twenty-two nations, more than 40 ships and submarines, more than 200 aircraft and 25,000 personnel are participating in the RIMPAC exercise in and around the Hawaiian Islands. The world's largest international maritime exercise, RIMPAC provides a unique training opportunity that helps participants foster and sustain the cooperative relationships that are critical to ensuring the safety of sea lanes and security on the world's oceans. RIMPAC 2012 is the 23rd exercise in the series that began in 1971 and Gen. Hood is the first non-U.S. officer to command the exercise’s air component. (U.S. Air Force photo/1st Lt. AnnMarie Annicelli)
