Andersen coordinates with Osan for Beverly Palm 13-01

ANDERSEN AIR FORCE BASE, Guam --  Team Andersen responded to a base-wide recall on Andersen Air Force Base, Guam, Jan. 13, for Operational Readiness Exercise Beverly Palm 13-01.

During Beverly Palm 13-01, executed from Jan. 13 through 16, Andersen practiced mobilization with Osan Air Base, South Korea. The goal was to develop seamless coordination between bases if there is a need to respond to a contingency within the Korean Peninsula or Pacific area of responsibility.

"The ability to actually integrate flight operations with other bases is an incredible opportunity for the Airmen - assigned and deployed - to Andersen and brought us a step closer to training how we fight," said Col. Randy Kaufman, 36th Operations Group commander.

Additionally, the ORE was conducted in preparation for the upcoming consolidated unit inspection in May, where the capability of Team Andersen to effectively function and perform in a wartime scenario is graded by Pacific Air Forces inspectors.

"The 36th Wing has made great progress in being able to meet our theater requirements and prepare us to demonstrate that proficiency to the inspectors coming to Andersen this May for our base-wide CUI," said Colonel Kaufman. "Our 36th Wing Airmen did an impressive job, but there are still a few areas in which we can improve. This is why we conduct our exercises."

The exercise gave Airmen the opportunity to test their knowledge in post-attack reconnaissance sweeps and administering self-aid and buddy care. They also showcased their ability to react, defend and execute operations while a plethora of simulated wartime events - such as hazardous material decontamination, missile attack and active shooter scenarios - were going on in different areas on base.

"Beverly Palm 13-01 introduced new scenarios along with increasing the complexity of others," Maj. Jason Dillon, 36th Wing inspector general. "We ramped up the mobility scenarios, tested aircraft generation and emergency response during alarm conditions. We also synced up with other bases, enhancing the realism of our exercise as a whole."

Despite the significant number of base events, the 36th Wing received, generated and launched all sorties in support of the assigned missions and successfully executed a significant number of mobility movements.

"The immediate observation is clear, the Airmen on this base are nothing short of amazing," said Major Dillon. "We will continue to build our exercise program and work on realistic and relevant scenarios preparing the 36th Wing to fly, fight and win."

The next ORE is scheduled for March 2013.
