Kadena prepared for the upcoming Military Saves Week by having the 18th Wing vice commander endorse a proclamation.

The proclamation Col. Brian McDaniel signed states the 2013 Military Saves Week is Feb. 25 through March 2. The week is part of a national campaign that encourages military members and their families to save money and reduce debt.

A Military Saves Week website, www.militarysaves.org, offers information about the campaign as well as a savings pledge.

"We want as many Team Kadena service members, spouses and youth as possible to go to the website and take the pledge throughout the month of February," said Capt. Leo Green, Airman and family readiness center officer.

To register, go to www.militarysaves.org and take the pledge: "I will help myself by saving money, reducing debt, and building wealth over time. I will help my family and my country by encouraging other Americans to build wealth, not debt."

The AFRC is also providing classes throughout the month to help people learn to stay on track and save money wisely.

Some of the classes available focus on couponing, money-saving classes for teens, and first-time home buyers.

"The mission of the AFRC is to promote self-sufficiency," Green said. "Part of that self-sufficiency is having a solid plan towards financial independence, which is why we value financial empowerment."
