MISAWA AIR BASE, Japan -- Members of the 35th Maintenance Squadron conducted a crash recovery exercise at Misawa Air Base, Japan, Sept. 23, 2014. The purpose of the exercise was to ensure crash recovery team members are prepared to execute in the event of a real-world aircraft recovery. Duties carried out during this exercise included an inspection of the crash site, placement of pallets and airbags, and removal of hazardous debris. In this scenario, the aircraft was impeding the runway and needed to be cleared to enable runway operations.
