Courage under fire: EOD tech diffuses a deadly encounter
U.S. Air Force Tech. Sgt. Kristopher Parker, an explosive ordnance disposal technician from Carlsbad, New Mexico, joined the Air Force in 2003 and has participated in numerous missions while deployed to Afghanistan and Iraq. On May 21, 2014, Parker was involved in a 15-hour mission to clear a warehouse producing numerous improvised explosive devices. During this time, Parker and his team engaged in a firefight with enemy combatants. Providing suppressive fire and creating an escape route, Parker enabled his team to eliminate the enemy and return alive. For his courageous acts, Parker was nominated for the Silver Star.
