PEKANBARU, Indonesia – A surgeon from the Tripler Army Medical Center, from Honolulu, Hawaii, operates on a 47 year old local Indonesian during operation PACIFIC ANGEL 11-3 here, June 15, 2011. PACANGEL is a series of joint/combined humanitarian civic outreach efforts training conducted in the Pacific. This humanitarian and civic outreach training program is aimed at improving military-civic cooperation between the United States and Indonesia. The operation consists of several civil military assistance programs to include medical civic assistance programs (MEDCAP/DENCAP) with focuses on general health care, dental, optometry, women’s health, and pediatrics. Joint military members from the island of Oahu transfer the remains of a U.S. service member, recovered by the Joint Pacific Accounting Command, during an arrival ceremony on Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, Hawaii June 17. Three flag draped caskets carried military members from World War II and the Vietnam War. The remains were recovered in Laos, Vietnam and Papua New Guinea. Following the ceremony with full military honors, the remains will be sent to JPAC's Central Identification Laboratory where forensic identification analysis will be conducted so the remains may be identified and returned to the members family.
