Minister of Defense of Japan visits HQ PACAF

His Excellency Itsunori Onodera, Minister of Defense of Japan, listens to the Pacific Air Forces mission brief from General Hawk Carlisle, PACAF commander, during a visit to Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, Hawaii, July 2. As part of this visit, Minister Onodera met with PACAF leaders and visited aircraft static displays, including the F-22 Raptor. Throughout the day, the Minister and PACAF leaders discussed that in any crisis event in the Pacific region, whether it is a natural disaster or armed conflict, Japan will be a major throughput and output location. 1st Lt. Andrew Spier, 17th Operational Weather Squadron Officer in Charge, Senior Master Sgt. Greg Espinosa, Flight Chief of Contingency Operations, and Staff Sgt. Arthur Gonzalez, West Zone Forecast Supervisor, monitor weather forecasting equipment to provide constant updates on incoming weather patterns to service members throughout the Pacific theater. The 17th OWS provided detailed weather forecasts of Mount Everest to the Airmen from the USAF 7 Summits team enabling mountaineers to become the first U.S. military team to summit the peak.

Airmen from the USAF 7 Summits team pass the 24,000 foot elevation point of Mount Everest on their way to "Camp 3," the team's highest point without oxygen. Antarctic medical evacuation

Responding to a short-notice request from the National Science Foundation, a C-17 Globemaster III crew from Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington, alongside Aeromedical Evacuation and Critical Care Air Transport Team Airmen, safely evacuated an ailing contractor from McMurdo Station, Antarctica Apr. 22. After the C-17 safely landed at McMurdo Station, there was an exceptionally fast 35-minute ground time in which the patient was transferred to the aircraft.
